Celebrating great record labels

You know Radio Phoenix is a big advocate of indie music. That is - music that's independently funded, recorded, distributed, marketed, etc. outside of the big, commercial machine. Not that there isn't amazing stuff coming from the big labels, but there's just so much creativity and originality coming from those DIY bands that find support in the smaller independent labels out in the world.
And competition? You may not know it, there's camaraderie like you wouldn't have guessed! Check out what one record label is doing:
A GREAT RECORD LABEL FOR EVERY LETTER
"Today at Asthmatic Kitty we are launching a new project we're calling "Labels by Alphabet"... Asthmatic Kitty is going to take the next few months to celebrate labels we feel have integrity and good taste... We want to acknowledge and honor folks who are doing things their own way and releasing music that is important for the world to hear... Supporting and promoting independent music in general is good not only for these other businesses but our own."
In this episode, DJ Nico interviews Sister Cities. This is one of the funnest episodes yet. Sister Cities is a sweet sounding garage rock band. Here's a description from my blog:
It sounds like: You are dreaming you are at your high school prom wearing special shoes that make you a dancing prodigy when your biggest crush that you never had the courage to talk to comes and up to ask you for a dance.

DJ Nico (not Nate) was interviewed by Phoenix Local Music a few weeks ago about Radio Phoenix and his role at Radio Phoenix as Local Music Director. The interview takes place from the DJ booth at Radio Phoenix. Local band Neba plays in the background.
